WWE RAW/ECW house show
Cape Girardeau, Mo. at The Show Me Center
Report by Dot Net Member Adam Dunn
The Show Me Center is said to hold 7,000 people but I highly doubt that, even if Sarah Palin does a rally there. The top part of the Center was half tarped off which was shocking, as usually the center sells out. But if was a lot less packed, maybe 2/3 full. which I guess can be attributed to it being Super Bowl Sunday, but the show was at 2pm, so there was plenty of time to get back for the game.
Before the show began Tony Chimel announced Cena would not be at the show, prompting large boos, but not by my friend and I, who had the loudest cheers to such news.
1. Kofi Kingston defeated Dolph Ziggler with whatever his finisher is called. Pretty good match, nothing too special but the people do love themselves some Kofi.
Ziggler wore some goofy blue leopard print pants, it was rather awkward.
Mickie James came out next to give a family some front row seats, however her microphone didn't work, no mattered what she tried. So Tony Chimel had to basically do the skit for her. It was kind of embarassing, but Mickie was barely clothed, so I guess that helped.
2. Melina defeated Beth Phoenix to retain the Women's Championship. Another typical match from the two, with Beth absolutely dominating and Melina winning with a rollup. Afterwards, Melina was walking backwards to the back and tripped and fell, don't know how, cause there was nothing in her way. Sad.
3. Jack Swagger defeated Tommy Dreamer to retain the ECW Championship. Pre Match promo had Dreamer repeating his story about winning the title before June 6, then he promptly jobbed. Yay for consistency!
4. Rey Mysterio defeated Kane. Come on, really? I know its a house show, but seeing Kane job to a 619 is ridiculous. I'm just biased.
5. Randy Orton defeated CM Punk in a non title match. Orton is now tied with the Undertaker for the longest entrance in history. Nearly five minutes of walking slower and slower to the ring until it seemed he wasn't walking at all. Large Orton chants in the crowd, but he got on the mic and told everyone that while he may be from St. Louis, he will not acknowledge an inbred hick town like Cape Girardeau, which drew large boos, even though its mostly true. Finish came with Orton catching Punk in mid air with an awful RKO, then picking him back up and RKOing him again. But I'm not sure too many people were noticing the botch.
6. Mike Knox won a Six-Man Over the Top Battle Royal for a spot in the Elimination Chamber Match at No Way Out. Mike Knox defeated Dolph Ziggler, JTG, Shad, Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase by eliminating Shad. Slow slow match where the only real star was Ted Dibiase, and he was great at his character. Knox hit a sick looking Randy Orton like drop kick to Shad late in the match that had me in awe. Very well done.
7. Shawn Michaels defeated Chris Jericho. Jericho cut a typical pre match promo stating how we didn't deserve to cheer him. HBK was super over, receiving a deafening pop when he came out and constant HBK chants for the entire match. Shawn wins with Sweet Chin Music and thanks for coming to the show.
Notes: We had great seats, over looking the technician corner and where the wrestlers enter. It was awesome, and a very simple set up for a house show, as eveything was controlled by one little machine. Good show, always fun to see them.
